William A. Cooper is currently Medical Director of Cardiovascular Surgery at WellStar Health Systems in Marietta, GA and former Associate Professor of Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Cooper began his career in surgery in 1992 at Emory University. He was appointed Medical Director of Cardiovascular Surgery at WellStar in April of 2004.

Under Dr. Cooper’s direction, the Cardiovascular Surgery program at WellStar Health Systems is rated among the top 15% of cardiac surgery programs in the U.S., having achieved a 3 out of 3 star rating from Consumer Reports, the National Quality Forum and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. WellStar Cardiovascular Surgery is the only heart surgery program in the state of Georgia and one of only two in the entire United States to hold Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organizations (JCAHO) Disease Specific Certification in heart valve and coronary artery bypass surgery.
